Declaration: This survey is conducted by a student of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of University of Strathclyde for their dissertation.
This 2 min short questionnaire aims to check whether people find it “fair” or “necessary” that planting trees, afforesting, and increasing forest cover is a responsibility that every country should shoulder, even though historically most of the deforestation is caused by the so-called developed countries of today.
Your responses will be used to inform the project findings and recommendations, which will be included in my dissertation. No personal identifying data is collected in the questionnaire. All data and questionnaire responses will be deleted by 1 February 2023
Introduction: A proven concept called forest transition is observed in developed countries wherein at the initial development stages of the country, high levels of deforestation is observed due to multiple factors like, land requirements, resource requirements, population growth, economic growth etc. after all these factors stabilise the deforestation rate also decreases and once the country is developed, the forest cover instead starts recovering and increasing. This development trend which helped create the present developed high-income countries is now also being seen in today’s developing countries.
Do you think Developed countries find it easier to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions?
Do you think developed countries find it easier to regain or increase their forest cover?
In light of the climate crisis, Is it “necessary“ for today’s developing economies to have the above mentioned natural and historic way of development restricted by the already developed economies and in the name of collective interest of the world? (Agree=necessary, disagree=not necessary)

As opposed to the natural and historically observed route of development seen in the developed countries, is it possible for the developing middle- and low-income countries to develop and grow economically without exploiting their forests and natural resources?
Is it “necessary” for all countries to shoulder the responsibility of afforestation and set afforestation goals or should it be selective? (Agree=necessary, disagree=unnecessary)
